Principal & Owner

For nearly 20 years, GoodHill principal and owner Jen Hill has worked at the intersection of communications, public trust and complex issues. Her experience spans strategic communications, crisis and issues management, emergency response, media relations and public engagement, with a career grounded in public-sector and community organizations.
I started GoodHill because I believe good communications are about more than saying the right thing. They require understanding what is actually happening, who is affected, what people need to know and what an organization needs to do next.
My career has put me in some complicated rooms. I’ve advised executives, elected officials and boards through reputational issues, organizational change, public scrutiny and emergencies. I’ve worked alongside emergency managers, first responders, government agencies, Indigenous partners, community organizations, journalists and communications teams. I’ve led teams and large-scale communications programs, and I’ve also been the person in the EOC writing the update that needs to go out now.
That range matters to me. Strategy is only useful if it can be put into practice. In complex situations, I’m comfortable moving between the big picture and the immediate problem: identifying risk, asking difficult questions, making sense of competing information, developing a plan and then helping get the work done.
My approach is direct, thoughtful and collaborative. I value plain language over jargon, curiosity over assumptions and honesty over spin. I believe trust is strengthened when organizations communicate with people as people, particularly when circumstances are uncertain or the news is difficult.
I hold a Master of Arts in Professional Communication from Royal Roads University, along with specialized training in crisis communications, emergency management, Indigenous cultural safety and design.
My chapter, Designing Emergency Communications: Empathy, Collaboration, and Human Complexity, appears in the 2026 book Advances in the Practice of Risk, Crisis, and Emergency Communication.
GoodHill brings all of that together: clear communications, strategic thinking and practical support for complex times.
